Dance Pop

Dance pop burst onto the scene in the 1980s, primarily in the glitter-soaked clubs of New York and London, where a catchy hook could spark a dance revolution faster than you can say 'disco ball'. Characterised by upbeat tempos, synthesised melodies, and a tendency to make you feel as if you should be wearing fluorescent leg warmers, it's the musical equivalent of seeing a puppy – undeniably joyful and perhaps a bit ridiculous. The genre has invaded charts globally, proving once and for all that if you stick a catchy chorus on anything, the masses will follow like lemmings off a cliff, preferably whilst wearing sequins.
