80s
The 1980s music genre burst onto the scene with all the subtlety of a neon jumpsuit, fuelled by synthesizers and shoulder pads, turning sound into spectacle and pop into a full-blown art form. Characterised by catchy hooks, glossy production, and an alarming fixation on big hair, it felt as if every track had to be a chart-topper or the world might just implode. Culturally, it gifted us everything from music videos that could double as mini-movies to dance crazes that were both impressive and the source of much embarrassment at weddings.
