The Precision Bass is an electric bass guitar manufactured by Fender and introduced in 1951. It was the first commercially successful electric bass and its deep, thumping tone with a split-coil pickup became the foundation of rock, punk, and soul bass playing through James Jamerson, Roger Waters, and Steve Harris.
