Karl Weigl

Karl Weigl was an Austrian composer and teacher born in Vienna who began his career in the early 20th century within the late-Romantic and early modernist classical tradition. His work combines late-Romantic harmonic richness with contrapuntal clarity and lyrical expression, and after emigrating to the United States in the late 1930s he continued composing and teaching, helping to transmit Viennese musical traditions to American students.
