Barbara was a French singer-songwriter from Paris who began her career in the 1950s, working in the chanson and cabaret tradition. Her music combined sparse, piano-accompanied arrangements with poetic, often autobiographical lyrics, and she contributed to the development of post-war French chanson and cabaret repertoires.
