William Levi Dawson
William Levi Dawson was an American composer, choral conductor and educator born in Anniston, Alabama in 1899, whose career began in the early 20th century and centred on choral and orchestral music. His work blended African American spirituals and folk material with classical forms, and he taught and directed choirs at the Tuskegee Institute for decades while composing choral arrangements and orchestral pieces that bridged liturgical and concert traditions.
