Woody Herman Orchestra is an American big band formed in the mid-1930s in the United States, rooted in swing and big band jazz. Across the 1940s to the 1970s the orchestra incorporated bebop-influenced harmonies, blues elements and more modern arrangements, shifting from swing-era repertoire into post-war and modern jazz contexts and maintaining a focus on arranged ensembles with featured solo passages.
