Rex Lawson

Rex Lawson was a Nigerian highlife musician from Buguma in the Niger Delta who began his career in the late 1950s and led a touring band that performed across Nigeria and neighbouring countries. Drawing on highlife, calypso and traditional Kalabari musical elements, his work combined melodic vocals, piano-led arrangements and danceable rhythms that influenced popular music in Nigeria and the wider West African region.
