Ranking Joe is a Jamaican reggae deejay who began his career in Kingston in the mid-1970s, emerging from the island's sound system scene and recording through the late 1970s and 1980s. Employing a chatty toasting style, he performed over roots reggae and later digital dancehall rhythms, with lyrical themes that range from social commentary to lighthearted singjaying and an adaptability that saw him move from analogue to digital production.
