Loren Nerell is an American composer and ethnomusicologist based in California who began releasing recordings and performing from the late 1980s, working primarily within ambient, new-age and world-music contexts. His work blends Western ambient electronics, field recordings and Balinese gamelan traditions, reflecting sustained engagement with Southeast Asian musical practices and the integration of traditional tuned percussion with analogue synthesiser textures.
