Maarten Altena
Maarten Altena is a Dutch composer and double bassist who began his career in the late 1960s as a jazz and free-improvising musician and formed the Maarten Altena Ensemble in the 1970s. His music evolved from improvised jazz towards contemporary composed works, exploring extended techniques for the double bass and innovative ensemble writing that engaged with the Dutch new-music scene.
