Nicolas Flagello was an American composer born in New York City in 1928 who began his career in the mid-20th century composing in the classical tradition with a particular emphasis on orchestral, choral and vocal works. His music is characterised by a neo‑Romantic, tonal language that rejected serialist approaches and encompasses symphonies, operas, chamber pieces and choral works that engage with 19th‑century expressive traditions within a 20th‑century context.
