Radu Malfatti is an Austrian trombonist and composer, born in Innsbruck in 1943, who began his career in the 1960s and became associated with European free improvisation and experimental music. Across subsequent decades he shifted from jazz-rooted free improvisation towards a pared-down, reductionist and quiet aesthetic often linked with the Wandelweiser circle, producing sparse, low-volume works that sit between experimental, electroacoustic and contemporary classical practices.
