Ken "Snakehips" Johnson was a British jazz bandleader of Caribbean origin who formed a swing and dance band in London in the mid-1930s, performing in the city's commercial dance-hall circuit. Combining American swing arrangements with Caribbean rhythmic influences, his ensemble provided a platform for black British musicians and audiences in pre-war London and remained associated with popular dance music into the early years of the Second World War.
