Ljova is a Russian-born composer, violinist and bandleader who relocated to New York and began releasing recordings and leading the ensemble Ljova and the Kontraband in the early 2000s, working across contemporary classical, klezmer and film music. His work blends Eastern European folk motifs, klezmer, tango and jazz-influenced improvisation with chamber and cinematic arrangements, and he has extended his output into film and theatre scoring and collaborative projects with dance and visual artists.
