Oskar Nedbal was a Czech composer, violist and conductor born in Tábor, Bohemia in 1874 who trained in Prague and began his career there as a violist and conductor, working primarily in late-Romantic and theatrical genres. His output ranges from chamber and orchestral works to operettas, ballets and stage music, combining late-Romantic harmonies with Czech folk-influenced melodies, dance rhythms and a theatrical sensibility that featured in Prague's musical life in the early 20th century.
