Steve Swell is an American jazz trombonist and composer from New Jersey who emerged on the New York avant-garde scene in the late 1970s and is associated with free jazz and improvised music. His work spans small-group improvisation and large-ensemble composition, moving between free improvisation, experimental textures and post-bop references while engaging with contemporary creative-music movements.
