Kurt Elling is an American jazz vocalist from Chicago who began his professional career in the early 1990s and specialises in vocal jazz, interpreting standards and performing original compositions. His style blends swing and post-bop phrasing with extended improvisation and spoken-word techniques, and across his career he has moved from straight-ahead jazz interpretations toward more exploratory arrangements that engage with American jazz traditions and contemporary influences.
