Richard Barbieri is an English keyboardist and composer who began his career in London in the late 1970s as a founding member of the new wave band Japan and later worked with progressive rock and experimental groups as well as releasing solo material. He specialises in richly textured synthesiser and electronic soundscapes, moving from the art-pop and new wave textures of his early work into more ambient, experimental and progressive electronic territories and composing for film and contemporary ensembles.
