Jānis Ivanovs was a Latvian classical composer who began his career in the 1920s and worked primarily in the symphonic and orchestral genres. His music draws on Latvian folk tunes and landscapes, evolving from neoclassical forms into a more chromatic and expressive orchestral language and forming a substantial part of the 20th-century Latvian classical repertoire.
