William Ackerman is an American acoustic guitarist and composer from Palo Alto, California, who began recording and producing in the 1970s and founded the Windham Hill label associated with contemporary instrumental and new-age music. His work emphasises fingerpicked acoustic guitar, ambient textures and spare, pastoral arrangements, later incorporating elements of contemporary classical and ambient production and becoming closely associated with the development of late 20th-century contemporary instrumental/new-age music.
