Anne Waldman is an American performance poet and spoken-word artist from Millville, New Jersey, who began publishing and performing in the mid-1960s and is associated with experimental, Beat-influenced and avant-garde poetry scenes. Her work combines chant-like vocal delivery, collaborative multimedia performances and politically engaged texts, evolving from page-based poetry to extended live improvisational pieces that have intersected with jazz, noise and other avant-garde musical practices within alternative poetry communities.
