Norbert Brainin

Norbert Brainin was an Austrian-born violinist who left Vienna as a refugee in the late 1930s and established his career in Britain as a classical chamber musician from the 1940s. As the first violinist of the Amadeus Quartet, his repertoire encompassed Classical and Romantic works as well as twentieth-century compositions, and his playing and ensemble leadership contributed to post-war chamber-music performance practice in Britain and internationally.
