The Meters are an American funk band formed in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 1960s, emerging from the city's R&B and soul scene. Their music combines tight, syncopated grooves, sparse arrangements and New Orleans rhythmic traditions, and across their career they contributed to the development of funk and were frequently sampled in hip-hop and other genres.
