Claude Balbastre was a French composer, organist and harpsichordist born in Dijon who began his career in the mid-18th century and became active in Parisian church and royal court service. His music, rooted in the late Baroque and galant Classical styles, includes liturgical organ works, salon harpsichord pieces and arrangements of popular tunes, and is characterised by virtuosic ornamentation, improvisatory elements and adaptation to changing tastes in French musical life.
