Peggy Glanville-Hicks was an Australian composer born in Sydney in 1912 who studied and began her career in the 1930s, working primarily in twentieth-century classical music and opera while living and working in Australia, the United States and Europe. Her music combined lyrical melodic lines with modernist harmonies and an interest in non-Western musical idioms—notably Greek and Asian influences later in life—and she was active in promoting contemporary music through composition, broadcasts and curatorial work.
