Bachir Attar is a Moroccan musician from the village of Jajouka who became leader of the Master Musicians of Jajouka, a Sufi trance musical collective originating in the Rif Mountains, and began performing internationally in the late 20th century. His music draws on ancestral Sufi and Berber ritual repertoires, characterised by layered percussion, reed and vocal techniques that produce trance-inducing rhythms, and he has guided the group's adaptation for international audiences while retaining its ritual functions.
