Nello Santi was an Italian conductor who began his career in the 1950s specialising in opera and maintaining a primary focus on the Italian operatic repertoire. His conducting style emphasised clear tempi, fidelity to the score and supportive collaboration with singers, and over a long international career he contributed to the preservation and transmission of performance practices in Verdi, Puccini and bel canto works.
