Cyro Baptista is a Brazilian percussionist and bandleader from São Paulo who began his professional career in Brazil before establishing himself on the international jazz and world-music scenes from the 1980s, working across jazz, Brazilian popular music and experimental/world genres. He blends traditional Brazilian rhythms with avant-garde percussion techniques and theatrical, ensemble-based performance, evolving from sideman and session work into leading his own percussion ensembles and releasing solo recordings that fuse improvisation, composition and diverse global influences.
