Big Brother & the Holding Company are an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1965, associated with the city's psychedelic and acid rock scene and rooted in blues rock. Their music combined raw blues influences with extended psychedelic improvisation, and they were closely linked to the 1960s counterculture and the San Francisco music scene, evolving through several line-ups and later revivals.
