Dewey Redman was an American jazz saxophonist from Fort Worth, Texas, who began his professional career in the 1950s and became associated with free jazz, avant-garde jazz and post-bop. Characterised by a robust, expressive tenor tone, frequent utilisation of extended techniques and occasional use of folk-derived melodies and alternative reed instruments, his work evolved from post-bop roots into more exploratory improvised forms and influenced developments in improvised music.
