KRS-One is an American hip hop artist from the Bronx, New York, who began his career in the mid-1980s as the lead MC of the group Boogie Down Productions before establishing a long-running solo career. His music is characterised by politically and socially conscious lyrics, an 'edutainment' approach that promotes hip hop as a tool for education and activism, and a delivery combining spoken-word, call-and-response and stripped-back beats across both group and solo recordings.
