Arthur Fiedler was an American conductor who became conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra in 1930 and led its associated chorus and orchestra for several decades, specialising in popular orchestral and choral repertoire. He championed accessible arrangements of light classical works, show tunes and popular music, shaping broadcast and recording programmes and helping to establish a tradition of summertime and outdoor concerts that placed orchestral music in a broader civic and mass-media context.
