Pelham Humfrey

Pelham Humfrey was an English composer and singer from London who came to prominence in the Restoration era as a member of the Chapel Royal and who took on responsibilities for its boy choristers. His compositions combine English choral and theatrical traditions with French and Italian expressive devices encountered during travels to the Continent, helping to introduce continental stylistic elements into mid-17th-century English sacred and court music.
