Roland Hayes

Roland Hayes was an American lyric tenor from Georgia who began his concert career in the early 20th century, specialising in classical art song and the performance of African-American spirituals. He presented spirituals alongside European art songs in recital programmes, arranging and adapting spirituals for concert performance and touring nationally and internationally to place this repertoire within classical concert contexts.
