Jean-Baptiste Arban

Jean-Baptiste Arban was a French cornetist, conductor and teacher born in Lyon in 1825 who trained and worked in Paris and built his career in the mid-19th century within the Romantic-era classical tradition. He published the Grande méthode complète pour cornet à pistons in 1864, a pedagogical method that shaped brass technique and expanded solo repertoire, and his performing and teaching helped integrate the cornet into orchestral and military band contexts in 19th-century France.
