Peter Sculthorpe

Peter Sculthorpe was an Australian composer from Launceston, Tasmania, who began his career in the 1950s and worked primarily in classical and contemporary classical music. His music is characterised by spare orchestral textures, modal harmonies and rhythmic patterns that draw on Indigenous Australian and Asian musical influences, often engaging with Australian landscapes and ecological and cultural themes.
