Edge is an Irish rock guitarist who began his career in Dublin in 1976 as a founding member of a post‑punk group that later developed into alternative and arena rock. His guitar style, characterised by chiming, delay‑based textures and inventive use of effects, evolved from concise post‑punk riffs to more expansive, ambient and electronic‑inflected approaches that became a central element of the band's sound and its wider cultural presence.
