Giaches de Wert

Giaches de Wert was a Franco-Flemish composer born around 1535 who spent most of his career in Italy and is associated with the late Renaissance madrigal. His music is characterised by expressive text-setting, chromatic harmonies and dramatic contrasts, and it contributed to the evolution of expressive vocal writing within the Italian madrigal and early dramatic genres.
