Spontaneous Music Ensemble

Spontaneous Music Ensemble were an English free-improvisation ensemble formed in London in the mid-1960s and associated with the emerging UK free-jazz and avant-garde scenes. Their work emphasised collective, often quiet and reductionist improvisation, using extended techniques and shifting between duo, small-group and larger ensemble formats across the late 1960s and 1970s within the London improvised-music community.
