Edgar Lee Masters

Edgar Lee Masters was an American poet, biographer and lawyer born in Garnett, Kansas in 1868 who began his literary career in the 1890s and wrote primarily in poetry and verse drama. Known for his use of dramatic monologue, free verse and realist depictions of small-town Midwestern life, his Spoon River Anthology (1915) and subsequent works explored social criticism, memory and the voices of marginalised characters.
