Johann Joachim Quantz

Johann Joachim Quantz was a German Baroque composer, flautist and flute-maker, born in Oberscheden in 1697 who was active from the early 18th century and spent much of his career at the Prussian court. He wrote numerous concertos and sonatas for the transverse flute and authored a treatise on flute performance and ornamentation that informed contemporary practice and the transition from Baroque to early Classical styles.
