Erkel Ferenc

Erkel Ferenc was a Hungarian composer and conductor, born in 1810, who began his career in the mid-19th century and worked primarily in the Romantic-era traditions of opera, choral and orchestral music. Drawing on Hungarian folk motifs and nationalist themes, his compositions and work in theatre and music education helped shape the emerging national operatic repertoire and choral practice in Hungary.
