Anne Brown
Anne Brown was an American soprano from Baltimore who began her career in the 1930s performing in operatic and concert repertoire and who created the role of Bess in the original staging of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. Her vocal approach blended operatic technique with elements of jazz and American popular song, and after relocating to Europe she taught and promoted the performance of American vocal repertoire within a broader cultural context.
