John LaPorta was an American jazz clarinetist and saxophonist from Philadelphia who began his career in the 1940s, performing in bebop and modern jazz contexts. He explored the intersection of jazz and classical music through Third Stream projects and later worked extensively in performance, composition and jazz education in the United States.
