Hannibal Marvin Peterson is an American jazz trumpeter and composer who emerged in the late 1960s and 1970s and is associated with avant-garde, free jazz and spiritual jazz movements. His work blends high-energy free improvisation, Afrocentric and spiritual themes with elements of funk and electronic music, and over a long career he has moved between small-group settings and larger, community-orientated projects that emphasise ritual and political engagement.
