Thijs van Leer is a Dutch musician and composer from Amsterdam who began his career in the 1960s and formed the progressive rock group Focus in 1969, working primarily in progressive rock with strong roots in classical and jazz. Known for his prominent use of the flute and Hammond organ, his work blends baroque and jazz influences with rock structures and has included solo classical and jazz projects as well as compositional and arranging work that contributed to the European progressive rock and crossover scenes.
