Barry Altschul

Barry Altschul is an American jazz drummer who began his career in the 1960s and became associated with avant-garde, free jazz and post-bop circles. Known for polyrhythmic and textural drumming, extended techniques and a focus on collective improvisation, his style evolved across post-bop, free improvisation and experimental jazz and contributed to the development of the late 1960s–1970s avant-garde jazz scene.
