Julius Katchen was an American classical pianist born in Long Branch, New Jersey, in 1926, who began performing publicly as a child and developed an international concert career from the 1940s onwards. He specialised in Romantic repertoire—particularly the music of Johannes Brahms—and made a substantial number of studio recordings and concert interpretations that contributed to mid-20th-century performance discourse.
