Woody Shaw

Woody Shaw was an American jazz trumpeter and composer who began his professional career in the 1960s and worked chiefly within hard bop, post-bop and modal jazz contexts. His playing and writing were characterised by advanced harmonic concepts, wide intervallic leaps, extended techniques and the incorporation of modal and avant-garde elements, with his recorded work showing a progression from hard bop roots into more modern post-bop and modal approaches.
